Tailor made

One more of the many many great things about Bangkok is that there are tailor shops on almost every street.  I have had many shirts made and several suits.  I have my shirts made at a shop not too far from where I work here.  You have to be careful, as some places are legitimate and others do poor work with poor materials and take advantage or tourists.

For years, I have walked past a place very close to the church where I stay without even stopping to look,  This trip, I decided to give them a shot.  I talked with the owner for a while and ended up negotiating a deal with him... six new shirts made to order for $22 US each.  Far less than I would pay for dress shirts off the rack at Penneys or some such,.

I explained that I like my shirt tails a little longer than normal.  He said, "No problem!"  I told him a liked an extra button at the bottom, and again no problem.  I had my choice of hundreds of rolls of fabric in untold numbers of colors and patterns.  He measured me carefully and asked me to come in the next evening for a fitting, but I planned to be out of town, so I went in today.  These shirts were so well done that there was no need for a single alteration.  I think will trust them with my next suit, too!

P.S.  In fact, I went back and ordered a suit with two more dress shirts to go with it for about $225.  It will be ready for first fitting tomorrow night!
