Khao Lak Christmas 2009 - Part I

This year's Christmas trip to Khao Lak is now history and it was another wonderful time. The toughest part is going to be to determine which of the 1200 photos I have to add to this blog. I'll try not to bore you too badly...

The trip down went well. About eleven hours on the road, but broken up by a visit to a waterfall and other breaks.
Day 1, the day after Christmas, started with some of the guys on the team playing soccer with some young men form the community. Ahjan Phetmony, the pastor at Khao Lak Zion Christian Group, has been building relationships with the soccer guys for a long time.

Vee gets to know one of the guys.

The team bought ice cream for the local soccer players from a vendor. Notice that when you order an ice cream sandwich here, you get what you ask for. (Yes, that is plain white bread.)

After soccer and cleaning up, we went to the beach to visit with two church members who are vendors along the seashore.

It's a tough gig, but someone has to do it.

Sunday morning, I spoke at Zion and Rerk was my translator. THAT was a pretty amazing deal for me. I spoke on atonement and how all of history pointed toward the atoning work of Jesus. After practice and then the real thing, Rerk, not yet a Christian, probably understands atonement better than most believers I know.

A faithful member of Zion, she has been there every time I have visited.

Worship at Zion.

And then lunch of fried rice and a tasty little number called... small fish. Pretty descriptive. Deep fried minnows eaten whole and really good.
