We ended up at the home of the church member's sister. She runs a jack fruit orchard or farm. Her husband operated it until his death a few years ago, and now she is left to run the farm herself. We visited with her for a while and prayed for her.
What in the world is a jack fruit you ask? Well, it looks pretty awful, like a huge, elongated hedge ball.
Jack fruit ready to be hauled to market.
Si Pai (the member's sister) cuts up a jack fruit for me to try after finding out I had never tasted it. The flesh is thick and meaty, but the flavor is quite sweet, and it tastes a lot like a good, sweet cantaloupe. Vee warned me that, although it tastes very good, eating a lot of it at once can make you sick, but I suppose that is true of a lot of things.

That is some hefty fruit, and yes, I can imagine eating too much at once might make one sick; well let's just say - I can say what it would do to me!!
